The protocol to the 2002 income and capital tax treaty between Latvia and Switzerland entered into force on 3 September 2018. The protocol, signed 2 November 2016, is the first to amend the treaty and includes several BEPS-related provisions, as well as new withholding tax exemptions for dividends, interest, and royalties, and new exchange of information provisions. The protocol generally applies from 1 January 2019. However, the provisions added to Article 25 (Mutual Agreement Procedure) on arbitration apply from the date of the protocol's entry into force, with the three-year period for arbitration beginning from that date for pending cases.
