Dutch Tax Treaty Negotiation Plans for 2018 — Orbitax Tax News & Alerts

The Dutch Ministry of Finance has announced its tax treaty negotiation plans for 2018. The plans include the start of tax treaty negotiations with:

  • Australia - would revise or replace the current 1976 tax treaty;
  • Austria - would revise or replace the current 1970 tax treaty;
  • Colombia - would be the first of its kind;
  • Costa Rica - would be the first of its kind;
  • Ecuador - would be the first of its kind;
  • Morocco - would revise or replace the current 1977 tax treaty; and
  • Portugal - would revise or replace the current 1999 tax treaty.

In addition, negotiations will continue in 2018 for tax treaties with:

  • Andorra - would be the first of its kind;
  • Belgium - would revise or replace the current 2001 tax treaty;
  • Brazil - would revise or replace the current 1990 tax treaty;
  • Chile - would be the first of its kind;
  • France - would revise or replace the current 1973 tax treaty;
  • Liechtenstein - would be the first of its kind;
  • Mozambique - would be the first of its kind;
  • Pakistan - would revise or replace the current 1982 tax treaty;
  • Senegal - would be the first of its kind;
  • Sri Lanka - would revise or replace the current 1982 tax treaty;
  • Uganda - would revise or replace the current 2004 tax treaty; and
  • The U.S. (possibly) - would revise or replace the current 1992 tax treaty.

Any resulting treaties or protocols to revise current treaties will need to be finalized, signed, and ratified before entering into force. Details of each will be published once available.
