On 29 April 2025, officials from Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan began the first round of negotiations for a new income tax treaty. Any resulting treaty must be finalized, signed, and ratified before entering into force and, once in force and effective, would replace the 1996 tax treaty between the two countries.
