Moldova published Law No. 242 of 28 July 2022 in the Official Gazette on 19 August 2022, which introduces a minimum social security (insurance) contribution requirement for employees. Under prior rules, employers are required to pay social security contributions based on the gross salary, wages, etc. paid to employees, with no set minimum. As provided by Law No. 242, a minimum contribution is introduced equal to 25% of the minimum monthly salary/wage (50% originally proposed). Considering the current minimum monthly salary/wage of MDL 3,500, this results in a minimum contribution of MDL 875. The minimum social security contribution applies from 19 August 2022.
Note, the social security contribution rates for 2022 are generally 29% for public sector employers and 24% for private sector employers, although different rates apply for certain specific categories of persons.
