The Ugandan Finance Ministry has recently announced its intention to renegotiate all existing tax treaties and to suspend all current negotiations. The move is part of a series of measures to strengthen the country's economy and improve tax compliance and revenue.
Uganda is now drafting a new treaty model based on the best practices of other nations, especially other undeveloped countries. The new model will likely be based on the UN model, which is seen by the Southern and Eastern Africa Trade Information and Negotiation Institute as better protecting the interest of developing nations as compared to the OECD model.
