Czech Government Approves Proposal for Temporary Windfall Tax on Refineries

The Czech Ministry of Finance has announced the government's approval on 21 September 2026 of a proposal for a temporary windfall tax on the refinery sector for the years 2026 and 2027. The windfall tax targets large refining companies with total annual revenue exceeding CZK 2 billion and at least CZK 50 million in revenue specifically from refining activities. It will be levied at a rate of 50% on the increase in gross refining margins compared to the year 2025.
