Japanese House of Representatives Approves Pending Tax Treaty with Argentina

On 19 May 2020, the Japanese House of Representatives (lower house of parliament) approved the pending income tax treaty with Argentina. The treaty was signed on 27 June 2017.

Under the treaty, dividends are taxable at a rate of 10% if the beneficial owner is a company that has owned, for a six-month period that includes the date on which entitlement to the dividends is determined, at least 25% of the voting power of the payer company. A 15% rate applies in other cases.
