Nigeria Abolishes 5% Excise Tax on Telecommunication Services

On 19 August 2025, Nigerian President Bola Tinubu formally abolished the 5% excise tax on telecommunication services, including mobile voice and data services. The excise tax was previously suspended by the president in 2023, with some lawmakers seeking to reinstate it in 2024. The abolishment of the excise tax was confirmed by the Nigerian Communications Commission on 20 August.
