According to a release from Kyrgyzstan's Ministry of Economy and Commerce, officials from Japan and Kyrgyzstan concluded negotiations for a new income tax treaty on 9 October 2025, with the parties agreeing in principle on the draft agreement. The treaty will need to be signed and ratified before entering into force and, once in force and effective, will replace the 1986 tax treaty between Japan and the former Soviet Union, which continues to apply in respect of Japan and Kyrgyzstan.
