Japan and Mongolia to Commence Tax Treaty Negotiations and Consider Social Security Agreement

According to a release from Japan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Prime Ministers of Japan and Mongolia met on 29 September 2026 and agreed to promptly commence negotiations for an income tax treaty and preliminary consultations on a social security agreement in the future. Any resulting treaty or agreement would be the first of their kind between the two countries and must be finalized, signed, and ratified before entering into force.
