The National Bank of Kazakhstan announced its decision at the end of July 2021 to increase the base interest rate to 9.25%, which is up from 9.0%. For tax purposes, the rate is important as it is used in determining late payment interest, which is calculated as 1.25 times the base rate, divided by 365 to determine the daily rate. The rate increase is effective from 26 July 2021.
