Romania Increases Annual Mining Tax Rates

Romania has published Decision No. 391 of 14 May 2026 in the Official Gazette, which increased the annual mining tax (fee) rates. The rates are as follows, based on activity type:

• Prospecting - RON 599/km2 (up from RON 558)
• Exploration - RON 2,405/km2 (up from RON 2,241), which doubles after two years and becomes five times higher after four years (intended to prevent hoarding)
• Exploitation - RON 60,100/km2 (up from RON 56,011)
