On 25 September 2018, officials from Latvia and Tunisia met to discuss bilateral relations, including the negotiation of an income tax treaty. Any resulting treaty would be the first of its kind between the two countries, although a tax treaty had been negotiated and initialed in 2008, but was never signed.
